Product Review: Trader Joe's 'Beefless Strips'
Friday, May 14, 2010 at 5:21PM
Before I went vegan (which was over eight years ago), steak was one of my favorite foods. When I went veg, I thought that would be one of the things I missed the most. It turns out I actually didn't miss it that much, until I started using these Beefless Strips from Trader Joe's. These have become one of my favorite ingredients and store-bought faux meats, I go through about two packs per week. They retail for only $2.99, an entire package is only 360 calories and contains 60 grams of meat-free protein!
I have chopped them up, seasoned them with fajita seasoning, thrown them on the griddle and used them in vegan quesadillas with Daiya cheese. I've thrown them into stir-frys, awesome. The way I enjoy them most, however, is just plain by themselves, in a homemade rub, thrown on the griddle and served with a green veggie and potato, steak house style. I'm a sucker for A1, which is vegan, so I smother these strips in it. I eat a whole package in one sitting when I go that direction, no questions asked.
If you have any questions about how to prepare them, leave a comment on this post and I'll offer my best advice.
