New Mother's Market Costa Mesa Location is OPEN!

If you're from OC or know anything about the health food scene here, you know the name Mother's Market. Mother's has been and institution in the local vegan scene here for a good while, since long before I became veg 9 years ago. Their original and flagship location in Costa Mesa used to be in a strip mall on 17th, but the last few years it had become painfully obvious that they had outgrown that location. So, when the freestanding Borders bookstore at the corner of 19th and Newport Blvd. went out of business, Mother's jumped on the opportunity to inhabit this much larger space. This Tuesday, they finally opened the doors to their new location, so when I was in need of some more Daiya cheese on Wednesday, I inevitably headed to the new store to check it out. The new location is much larger, and it is beautiful! Here are some details:

PROS

  • Much wider aisles (to any Mother's shopper you know this is a gigantic relief)
  • Significant salad bar with plenty of organic offerings
  • A giant new cafe and juice bar with patio
  • Great enlarged body care section
  • Much larger and easier to navigate produce section
  • Wonderful and fuller flower selection

CONS

  • No Tofurky frozen pizzas (I'm sure they'll have them eventually, I just had my hopes up.)
  • No pizza bar like at the Santa Ana location
  • Shelves and freezer cases were not fully stocked, but it was only their 2nd day at the location so I'm sure that will improve
  • Parking was nasty! Hopefully just a symptom of the new store hype rush.

The parking lot looked like South Coast Plaza's around Christmas time.

Daiya game proper.

The new cafe is HUGE!

This is the view when you walk in, I told you they have a beautiful thing going on here.
