Hit or Miss: Sharky's Woodfired Mexican Grill

If you're not yet familiar with our Hit or Miss features, it's where we examine a mainstream eating establishment that has one or two or a few vegan options. I am addicted to Mexican food, and our last HoM took us to enjoy the tofu tacos at Wahoo's, and today we check out more tofu-based Mexican goodness at Sharky's Woodfired Mexican Grill.
I first visited Sharky's (not to be confused with Sharkeez, where many a drunken Sunday Fundays have been spent) while I was in college in Irvine, just looking for a decent veggie burrito. I was ecstatic to find out that all their beans and rice are 100% organic and vegan, and shortly after that they ended up adding organic tofu as a substitute for any meat in any of their dishes. I won't lie, Sharky's was quite an influence in my move to Quail Hill a few years ago, since it was right next door to my complex.
This visit I opted for the grilled veggies and tofu burrito, which is totally vegan right off the menu. I chose pinto beans this time, but I usually go for the black beans. They're both really good and totally organic, so just feel it out depending on what mood you're in! Sometimes I forego the veggies and just get the Sharky's burrito with tofu. The tofu is always well cooked and well seasoned, it is neither too bland nor too spicy, and just the right firmness for a burrito.

Another thing that I like about Sharky's is that they include a significant portion of chips on the side of any order. And what good are chips without a top notch salsa to dip them in? Sharky's has an unbeatable salsa bar, literally every flavor is good. I usually go for the super spicy on my burrito and the Sharky's house salsa to dip my chips in. This time I threw some of the fire-roasted and some of the salsa verde into the mix, and at one point I even combined them all!
With 19 locations in Orange and Los Angeles counties, and another in Washington, Sharky's is a great place to find really tasty vegan Mexican food that is quick, affordable and mostly organic.

Awesome! I've never been here but now that I know they have vegan options I'll have to check it out sometime!
BTW, just discovered your site and as a fellow OC dweller and vegan I can't wait to read more recommendations for vegan-friendly places in my backyard!
