Product Review: Zoey and Bailey's Vegan Cupcakes

Zoey and Bailey's Cupcakery and Sweet Treats is a somewhat newly-formed bakery in Orange, CA specializing in adorable, affordable, delicious sweets. The owner, Erin McClendon, is a saavy vegan businesswoman who got sick of slaving away in a gluten-free bakery and decided to go in her own direction. Erin was kind enough to bring me a dozen of these tasty morsels a couple weeks ago, and I'm not afraid to admit they were gone wthin a week.

I can honestly say there wasn't a bad flavor in the bunch, some of which included:

  • Chocolate with chocolate frosting
  • Chocolate with vanilla frosting
  • Chocolate with rasberry frosting
  • Lemon with lemon frosting
  • Lemon with blackberry frosting
  • Red velvet with vanilla frosting
  • Vanilla with vanilla frosting

Although I'm a fiend for all things chocolate, my favorite flavor was actually the lemon with lemon frosting. Is it me or is there not nearly enough lemon-based vegan desserts out there? Of course I loved the chocolate flavors, especially the one with rasberry frosting. Erin uses real berries in her frosting and that makes such a gigantic difference in authenticity of flavors.

These cupcakes aren't gluten-free, but they are soy-free if that is something you're concerned about. You can catch Zoey and Bailey's at several OC Farmer's Markets and local events, including tonight's Palmo Project Winter Solstice Celebration at the Newport Beach golf course, and soon from our friends at Never Felt Better vegan shop in Sacramento. You can also order online from anywhere in the country and Erin has even been known to hand-deliver here in Orange County.
