Freesoulcaffe Breakfast in Tustin

If you've read this blog before, you're no stranger to Freesoulcaffe in Tustin, CA. It was the setting for VV's first ever "From Both Sides of the Table" review featuring Part 1 by VV East Coast Correspondent Natalie Padilla and Part 2 by myself.

The food I've had for lunch at Freesoul has always been delicious, the staff is delightful, and the setting and tea selection makes it a great place to catch up with old friends. Since the first time I ate there, I knew that I had to, at some point, get there to try their breakfast.

I rarely eat breakfast, but when I feel like having something in my stomach to start the day, there isn't a whole lot of selection in Orange County. Sure, Mother's serves some pretty good stuff, and Avanti has a semi-vegan-friendly brunch on the weekends, but that's about it. That's why I was so happy to see Freesoul, which is completely vegan, offering breakfast on a daily basis.

The breakfast menu isn't super extensive, offering just waffles, oatmeal, fruit bowls and baked goods. Still when my partner in crime for the Natural Products Expo suggested we go there to fuel up before Day 2, I quickly and happily obliged. As you can see, we both opted for waffles... she had the classic and I went for the more unique green tea flavored waffle, and was glad I did.

The green tea waffle had just a slight enough tea taste to be apparent but not overwhelming, making it a really different but perfect approach to the classic vegan Belgian waffle. It comes with real maple syrup and vegan butter, and you can add fresh berries or bananas for a couple bucks extra. (A total no-brainer.)

The one complaint we had is that we were unable to order a side of Freesoul's famous fake bacon, even though they would be making it just hours later for the BLT sandwich. My friend nearly ordered a whole BLT, sans bread, lettuce and tomato, just to get the bacon on the side, but I guess she was able to constrain her wild bacon cravings.

Topped off with a pot of berry maté, this carbfest was a great start to an even better day at Expo West. As usual, I would highly recommend Freesoulcaffe in Tustin for great food, polite and friendly service, and an awesome ambiance.

I just love that place although I've only been there once. I can't wait to go back and try everything =)

Hey there! Just found your blog through the Vegan Con website and have been wondering around! :) Lunch at Freesoule splitting a BLT and one of their soups of the day is one of our favorite activities! Their Green tea waffle is also delicious but would be rad with a side of potatoes and vegan bacon! YUM! Great to find a vegan blogger in OC! Maybe we'll run into at Vegan Con!
