Range Rover Party Featuring Seabirds Truck

The first time I reviewed Seabirds Truck, it was on their opening day, and although my taco was pretty impressive, I knew doing a review on anyone's first day wasn't exactly fair. I've been trying and trying to get to Seabirds again since then, but somehow my schedule has never allowed me to cross paths with this all-vegan food truck. The stars finally aligned last Friday, when Newport Beach Land Rover threw a launch party for their new Evoque vehicle, with an open bar and free food from three prominent local food trucks, one being Seabirds.
Seabirds is uber-popular here in Orange County, but as of Sunday night they gained national attention as a competitor on Food Network's new season of Great Food Truck Race. Stephanie and the girls made us vegans proud, out-earning over half of the food trucks competing and advancing to the next round. Keep up the great work ladies!
Seabirds has become synonymous with mindblowing jackfruit tacos, and I found out why on Friday night.

Somehow Seabirds manages to take jackfruit and turn it into an "asada" that had everyone at the party saying "I can't believe this isn't meat". They were serving up their Island Jack tacos, which has the jackfruit asada marinated in teriyaki, mixed with grilled pineapple, local Maui onions and fresh cilantro. They top this killer combo off with a vegan chipotle sour cream that is absolutely to die for.
After trying a single taco, I knew what all the hype was about and I was now a believer. This was BY FAR the best taco I've ever had, and literally in contention for the best thing I've ever eaten in my entire life. If I had to do a segment for the Food Network show "Best Thing I Ever Ate", this would be near the top of the list if not at the top of possible choices for me. I ended up eating three that night, but I think I could probably put back ten of these tacos on any given day.
While the tacos were the only offering from Seabirds that night, they did have two side options: an heirloom tomato salad and cinnamon salted tortilla chips (when they ran out of cinnamon salted sweet potato fries). Both sides were incredible. The tortilla chips, which easily could've been nothing special, had the perfect crunch and just a hint of cinnamon for a really unique flavor. The heirloom tomato salad was as fresh as it gets, with juicy heirloom tomatoes combining with fresh herbs (most likely basil and mint) and lightly dressed for a great summer salad on a warm evening.
I am now a giant supporter of Seabirds and will be trying to find them around OC as often as possible. If you have a chance to find them in your neighborhood, I suggest you do everything in your power to make it happen.

Remember to watch Seabirds on Food Network's Great Food Truck Race at 9pm on Sundays.
I'll take one with faux suede interior please.
