I was at my local Whole Foods today for the first time in months and while checking out the newest additions to the frozen section I came across this: 365 Organic Frozen Vegan Lasagna. I rarely eat frozen foods (other than veggie burgers) but I love lasagna and made it through my first year in college surviving on frozen veggie (non-vegan) lasagna, so I had to try it. It totally reminded me of something you might see reviewed on my homie John's blog, The Laziest Vegans in the World. Before I give you my opinions, here are the basic features:
- All organic ingredients
- Whole wheat pasta
- Microwaves in about 7 minutes (or 65 minutes in the oven)
- 440 calories
- $3.99 retail price

Without a doubt, it wasn't the best lasagna in the world. (Obviously, I make the best lasagna in the world.) It could've been WAY better. It also could've been way worse. For all organic ingredients, I thought the $3.99 price point was really reasonable. The sauce was actually really good sauce, the the tofu ricotta was also pretty legit. I just hate microwaved veggies.
Yep, that's right. I said I microwaved something. I wasn't about to spend an hour waiting for it to cook in the oven and wanted to review it as the type of food you have for lunch in an office where your only cooking utensil is a microwave. I work from home, so I can do whatever I damn well please for lunch. I have, a couple times, worked in an office where it was either bring a lunch you made in the morning, have something frozen like this, or eat at Taco Bell. In that case, I'd say this would be a great option for a regular lunch staple.
For all you office worker bees out there, check this one out. If you have time to make a wholesome lunch from scratch, I'd skip it. Still, it's nice to see Whole Foods pushing their house brands in this kind of direction.

I'm going to look for this! (and yes, I will microwave it, too!) Sometimes a vegan just needs an okay, go-to dish!
Worker bees? I can't wait until you start blogging and use words like 'stummy' and start all your posts with 'HIIIIIIIIIIII'.
Also- you probably gave yourself microwave cancer with this lasagna.
Just to end things on a positive note.
