My Favorite Burger: Native Foods' Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger

Admittedly, I probably don't mention locally-based, but ever expanding, vegan chains like Native Foods and Veggie Grill on here enough. Both these chains are on an expansion roll and offer delicious animal-free cuisine, but "reviewing" a place that is such a staple in my eating out routine just seems awkward.

However, after starting my weekend last night with a feast at Native Foods in Costa Mesa, I decided I had to write about them for two reasons: they make what is most likely my favorite vegan burger on the planet, and my meal was FREE thanks to accumulated loyalty card points. So, without further ado, I bless you with the Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger.

The OBC starts with Natives' thinly sliced original seitan, which is made in house, just like all of their cholesterol-free proteins. Add house-made cheddar, carmelized onions, and crispy house bacon to the mix. How about some shredded romaine, spiralized red onions, carrots and a tomato slice for freshness? Sounding a little dry? Add BBQ sauce, AND vegan ranch. Stuff it all in a fluffy freshly-baked whole grain bun. The proverbial cherry on top? Why not battered and fried pickle slices? YES PLEASE!

No taste description I could give would do this any justice. Native Foods now boasts locations in Orange County, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Chicago and Portland. If you live anywhere close to one, get in the car now and when you get there tell them you want this perfect monstrosity. You won't be disappointed.
